STRONGER TOGETHER

super sick artists, 2015

Super Sick Records, the record label I ran with my brother, Joe, worked with Oxfam as part of their Oxjam music festival in 2015. As part of that, I wrote this track to be performed by a group of our artists. Songs that stand out for me from the back catalogue are often ones that involve bringing together a larger group of talented musicians, and this one is no different. Written and recorded quickly, I like to think that I can still hear the energy everyone brought to it.

ONE DAY DOWN

2011

Proudly inspired by the 8in8 project, I figured a group of our friends could probably write and record eight new songs - from scratch - in one day. We managed to live-stream the whole process in the days before live-streaming was a given and raised money for the British Red Cross along the way. My fondest memory is finishing up the closing track at about three in the morning while we all went slowly crazy.

What happens when I manage to convince four good friends that us sitting down to record a hip-hop track wouldn’t be as ridiculous as you’d naturally think. I’m not sure whether I was right.

i want to be right here (for christmas time)

the loudest stars, 2010

I deliberately sat down to write a Christmas song, listing ‘christmassy’ things on a napkin for lyrics, in an old pub (funnily enough, one change of business later, the same building where I met my wife). It took about a day to write, a week of convincing friends to play on it and a day to record. I have no idea how it still holds up so well, but it does. I play it every year with a port, remembering the time thousands of people sang the chorus live.
